Continuing from the previous post, an unusual number of the small timber moth Tymbophora peltastis came in to the light, it was by far the most numerous small moth.

Proteuxoa sanguinipuncta can be abundant at times, this was a nice specimen.

Prorocopis euxantha was featured recently, this is another moth in the group,

The Chestnut Crest, Crioa hades.

A Notodontid, Epicoma contristis.

A beautiful small Oecophorid, the Golden Leaf Moth, Wingia aurata.

A Pyralid, Spectrotota fimbrialis.

And a Crambid, Achyra affinitalis.

Moths in the Anthela acuta complex have been missing in action for quite some time, so it was good to see two come in on this occasion.

Another small Crambid, Nacoleia rhoeoalis has been fairly common in the garden, here is a close up of its distinctive antennae.

Quite an interesting session at home on a coolish night, just two moths featured for now with several pictures of these very photogenic species.. There will be more in the next episode. A hawk moth zoomed in to the light but didn’t stay, returned a couple of more times then settled on the edge of the concrete where it was photographed. It was then happy to be carefully moved to the sheet for more snaps.

Hippotion scrofa.

The Showy Geometrid, Niceteria macrocosma is described in MOV Vol. 5 as a moth of wet forests and heathlands. Previous records have been in the former, so it was a surprise to have a nice specimen come in from the garden eucalypts situated in dry farmland.
