Moths from the Pyralidae family were numerous, including this striking species, Salma pyrastis. The hind wings are orange, slightly visible in the images.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd030.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd030bl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"367\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd032.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd032bl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The large cossid Endoxyla encalypti is a regular at this location, they tend to flap around frantically, often upside down, which explains the bald spot.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd008.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd008bl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd009.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd009bl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Two of the three Emeralds that came in, the Bordered Emerald, Eucyclodes buprestaria, the larvae of which feed on Cassytha species, the Dodder Laurels,<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd012.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd012bl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"173\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>and the Cream-fringed Emerald, Chlorocoma melocrossa.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd013.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd013bl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"196\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Also from the Geometrinae, Wilson&#8217;s Grey, Cyneoterpna wilsoni, the second image shows the under wing markings that are different to the similar C. alpina.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd014.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd014bl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"260\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd015.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd015bl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"222\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>From the Oenochrominae, the Hakea Wine Moth, Oenochroma vinaria. The larvae of this moth feed on plants in the Proteaceae, which in this locality would probably be Grevillea lanigera.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd018.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd018bl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"189\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>From the Lasiocampinae, the Elusive White-spot, Opsirhina lechriodes. As the name suggests this is a moth that is not often encountered, possibly because it flies mostly in the hours shortly before dawn. On this occasion several were on the wing earlier in the night.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd001bl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"259\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A nice Praxis came in, the Victorian species are at present under review. The Lepidoptera Barcode of Life has the genus in the Catocalinae sub-family of the Noctuidae.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd026.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd026bl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"176\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another moth with a relatively small number of state records is the Halved Tuft-moth,<br \/>\nAcatapaustus metallopa, Nolinae.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd047.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths12\/gmd047bl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"346\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally, a cup moth from the Limacodidae, Doratifera quadriguttata, the Four Spotted Cup Moth.
