That sparked the interest that eventually led to this site being established, and perhaps it may be of interest to begin a series of posts illustrating that journey. This first post begins with a Hypodoxa muscosaria snapped on the wall in December 2005 using a Nikon 5700, and incidentally a species rarely seen since.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/retro\/hyp.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"425\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next, a female Trichiocercus sparshalli that has just completed her egg laying on the clothes line, covering them with a thick mat of scales from her abdomen.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/retro\/trich.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"414\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A Pterolocera species, lined group, missing half of one antenna.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/retro\/lined.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"530\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A nice specimen of a small Geometrid, Chloroclystis filata.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/retro\/chlor.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"381\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A new more capable camera, a Panasonic FZ 30, snapped a male Mistletoe Moth, Comocrus behri,\u00a0 in flight homing in on a female, January 2007.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/retro\/mist1.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"388\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/retro\/mist2.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"531\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Two Geometrids to finish this post, Ectropis excursaria, October 2007,<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/retro\/geo1.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"368\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The first of many Tea-tree Emeralds, Aelochroma metarhodata showing its hind wings,<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/retro\/aelo.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To be continued from time to time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s now just over twenty years since the journey began, with the casual snapping of the occasional moth encountered during daylight hours.
