This fresh one was tucked away safely on the window flyscreen.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths27\/dasy1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths27\/dasy1b.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"418\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At night they can sometimes be seen nectaring, this one is feeding in Grevillea Coconut Ice.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths27\/oldlady1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths27\/oldlady1b.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"524\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another moth that seems to regard the house as a safe place to stay during daytime is Diatenes, two very similar local species, aglossoides and gerula, no common names, but also in the Erebidae family with the Old Lady. During a 40 degree C day three were sheltering in the carport.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths27\/diatenesd.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths27\/diatenesdb.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"404\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths27\/diatenes01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths27\/diatenes01b.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"350\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And one from a previous day.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/moths27\/diatenes02.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"832\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many people will be familiar with the large moth often seen resting during daylight hours in secluded spots around the house, commonly known for a long time as the Old Lady Moth, although Inat has it with the more politically correct name of Southern Moon Moth.
