Quite an interesting session at home on a coolish night, just two moths featured for now with several pictures of these very photogenic species.. There will be more in the next episode. A hawk moth zoomed in to the light but didn’t stay, returned a couple of more times then settled on the edge of the concrete where it was photographed. It was then happy to be carefully moved to the sheet for more snaps.<\/p>\n

The Showy Geometrid, Niceteria macrocosma is described in MOV Vol. 5 as a moth of wet forests and heathlands. Previous records have been in the former, so it was a surprise to have a nice specimen come in from the garden eucalypts situated in dry farmland.<\/p>\n
