The first was one of several Crypsiphona ocultaria, the Red-lined Geometrid, a common but very neat species. (Geometrinae.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/home2\/cryp.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/home2\/crypbl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"208\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another early arrival to the sheet situated near a big grevillea, was the Hakea Wine Moth, Oenochroma vinaria. (Oenochrominae) As the name suggests, the larvae of this moth graze on plants in the Proteaceae.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/home2\/vinaria.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/home2\/vinariabl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"194\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Also in the Geometrinae is Diffundens Grey, Hypobapta diffundens.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/home2\/hypo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/home2\/hypobl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"204\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The biggest surprise for this session in the garden was a female Lucas&#8217; Stub-moth, Discophlebia lucasii,. (Oenosandridae) It preferred to land on a rusty weight stabilising the rig against the breeze, where it was well camouflaged.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/home2\/disco.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/home2\/discobl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"212\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Doratifera oxleyi, (Limacodidae) is known as the Painted Cup-moth for the brightly coloured larvae. This is a fat-bodied female.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/home2\/dora.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/home2\/dorabl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"302\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A few Noctuids arrived, among them quite a number of Proteuxoa tortisigna. (Amphipyrinae)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/home2\/prot.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/home2\/protbl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"396\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The small Crambid Nacoleoi rhoeoalis, (Spilomelinae) is notable for its flamboyant antennae.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/home2\/naco.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/home2\/nacobl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"296\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Among the smaller moths to come in were these two Tortricids, Epitymbia scotinopa, and an unidentified species.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/home2\/epit.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/home2\/epitbl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"409\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/home2\/tort.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/home2\/tortbl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"445\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A small Oecophorid to conclude, Palimmeces poecilella.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/home2\/palim.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/natureofgippsland.org\/mothing\/home2\/palimbl.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"325\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Click to enlarge.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A cool night with close to a full moon and a light breeze was not ideal, but a couple of hours saw a reasonable selection come in to the light.
